rukmini panduranga -ii

in Springen...

a little village which is part a the municipality of Heidenrod
which lies southwest in the state of Hesse in Germany

west also of the river Aar
between Koblenz and Wiesbaden
roughly halfway between the Rhine and the Lahn

a few days ago a new mandir was inaugurated
which fulll name is Rukmini Panduranga Mandir




in Pandharpur

a well known pilgrimage town
only 4 hours drive away, east, from Pune
in the state of Maharashtra in India

on the banks of Chandrabhaga (Bhima) River

a similar temple exists
which is commonly known as Vithoba temple
but which full name is Shri Vitthal-Rukmini Mandir

Vitthal being another name for Panduranga
so it is called Panduranga Rukmini Mandir
only the following order of names differs

श्री विठ्ठल-रुक्मिणी मंदिर




this 'Vithoba temple'
is the most visited temple in Maharashtra

and attracts about a million Hindu pilgrims each year
during the major yatra (pilgrimage) in Ashadh (June-July)

the Warkaris (pilgrims)
start marching then from two places in Pune district (!!)
to the temple of Pandharpur in groups called Dindi (procession)
to reach on Ashadhi Ekadashi (eleventh day of waxing moon)

a dip in the holy river Chandra-bhaga, on whose banks Pandharpur resides
is believed to have power to wash away all sins

áll the devotees are allowed
to touch the feet of the idol of Vithoba

in May 2014, this Vithoba temple became the first in India
to invite women and people from backward classes as priests


    

Dnyaneshwar and Tukaram lineages
13th- and 17th century, both from Pune district
merge again in Pandharpur !
